The John Nix Award

This brand-new annual award, worth one thousand pounds each year, will recognise excellence in rural business management and will be awarded by the Worshipful Company of Farmers (WCF) in association with The Andersons Centre and Farmers Weekly, and is open to graduates of the Company 2 flagship courses in Business Management and Rural Leadership.

The John Nix Award wishes to hear from those delegates who have achieved success with their business since attending the course(s) and the impact of the course(s) has made on their careers; those eligible for this annual award have completed their course(s) at least 8 years ago but no more that 12 years ago at the time of application.

John Nix, who died in 2018, will be remembered by many readers as the doyen of Agricultural Business Management in general and gross margins in particular. His practical, down-to-earth style won many farming hearts and minds, and his Management Pocketbook lives on as a worthy legacy. The award will be presented at the Livery Company annual lecture and dinner at Plaisterers' Hall in London on 29th April. Details of how to apply for this new award can be found attached.

Applications for the WCF renowned Management Course will open in January. This will be the 74th course and its longevity is testament to its enduring appeal. The annual feedback from graduates is universally outstanding. The two-week residential course (with some prior preparatory work and individual follow up) is recognised as the gold standard for agricultural business management, not least because most of its graduates keep in touch with one another for the rest of their lives. Details of how to apply for the Course can be found at https://acabm.wcf-applications.org
